BIER (Biological Indicator Evaluator Resistometer)

The BIER system is designed to provide precise and reproducible environmental conditions for evaluating the resistance of microorganisms to steam sterilization, hydrogen peroxide (HO) plasma sterilization, or ethylene oxide (EO) sterilization.

The system is equipped with a dynamic air removal mechanism and a leak detection function to ensure complete air evacuation before sterilization. After evacuation, the chamber is rapidly pressurized with steam, vaporized hydrogen peroxide, or EO gas to the pre-set sterilization temperature or pressure, ensuring stable and repeatable test conditions.

Sterilization involves the destruction of microorganisms by exposing materials to conditions that are rapidly lethal to them. The validation of sterilization processes typically uses biological indicators (BIs)-highly resistant microorganisms placed within the sterilizer. Their destruction confirms the lethality and reliability of the sterilization process during routine use.

Accurate evaluation of both BI resistance and bioburden resistance is critical to assessing process effectiveness. Over- or underestimating microbial resistance can lead to failed validations, contaminated batches, or sterility failures.
