How A Steam Sterilizer Works

Steam sterilizers use high-pressure steam to sterilize. The core principle is to utilize the penetrating power of steam and its high temperature (typically 121°C to 134°C) to destroy the protein structure of microorganisms, thereby killing bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores. The specific process is as follows:

Steam Generation: A steam generator heats water to a high temperature, generating high-pressure steam. Sealed Sterilization: High-pressure steam is injected into a sealed steam chamber, completely covering the items.

Cold Air Removal: Air is removed from the steam chamber through an exhaust valve or vacuum pump to ensure that the steam fully penetrates the items.

Constant Temperature and Pressure Sterilization: A specific temperature and pressure (such as 121°C and 103 kPa) is maintained for a specific time (typically 20 to 30 minutes) to ensure effective sterilization.

Exhaust and Drying: After sterilization is complete, steam is released through an exhaust valve. Some models offer a drying function for rapid drying of items.
